Supporting Our U. S. Troops
My husband and I adopted three U. S. soldiers through the “Adopt a U.S. Soldier” program. Every time I hear on the news about soldiers killed in the Middle East, I always wonder if one of our adopted soldiers were among the dead.
Last week I heard that 18 U.S. soldier were killed and was so very happy to hear that my adopted soldiers were not among them.
What does adopting a U.S. Soldier entail?
You must sign up through the “Adopt a U.S. Soldier” web page.
Upon signing up, you agree to stay in touch with your soldier, via e-mail (which is not always reliable as many soldiers to do not access to e-mail), snail mail-letters, cards, etc., and care packages if you can afford to send items the troops need or would like to have.
One of my recent care packages included socks. My soldier was so happy it humbled me to think that a pair of thick soft socks could make a person thrilled beyond belief. Canned fruit with pop-top lids was another huge success.
As a veteran, myself, I am honored that my husband and I, are able to help out the young men and women in the Middle East, even if it is through a pair of socks or a can of fruit. The saying below was sent to me by another veteran in hope that I would pass it on.
A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life,
Wrote a blank check
Made payable to the
“United States of America”
For an amount of
“Up to and Including his or her Life.”
That is Honor,
And there are too many people in this country today
Who no longer understand it.
