Moving to the Country

Published by prairielady at 3:54 pm under Animals, Kansas, Life in General Edit This

A person can sell their home themselves or sign a contract with a real estate agent.  We signed the contract so the real estate agent can concentrate on selling our house while we concentrate on cleaning, packing, sorting, and fixing anything broken.  Some I can do as I clean and pack, other things will have to wait until we have moved leaving the house empty.

Tips for packing and moving when selling your home:

  • Boxes and other containers of various sizes - you should have more than you think you will use as you will use them and more
  • Bubble wrap and old newspapers are good to wrap those fragile items such as dishes
  • Packing tape - to hold that bulging box or container together
  • Cleaning supplies - clean as you go, so you don’t have to do double duty.  Once a room is clean, do not enter it unless you absolutely have too
  • Rent a storage unit if you can afford too.  This allows you to remove packed containers from your home and frees up space while you continue packing.
  • Do not pack any items that you no longer use or need.  Donate them to a charity, give to your family, friends, or neighbors.  Or if you absolutely have to, put into the trash.  This will save you packing material and from having to decide what to do with the item later.
  • Beware if you have any animals in the house.  Cats love to get inside boxes and play with paper, bubble wrap and tape.  All of these items could be harmful to your pet.
  • When you have a real estate agent to sell your house, post notes on all your interior doors stating, “Do not let the cat out,”  “Do not let the dog out,” “Do not let the 2 cats out,” etc.  Along with notes stating, “Do not shut the cat/dog in a room” unless they are suppose to be there.  Otherwise your pet may be trapped in a room with no food, water, or bathroom.

As I continue to pack up my belongings, I am sure that I will become aware of additional tips.

If you have a tip for me, feel free to post it in the comment section.
