Changing Your Address

Published by prairielady at 9:08 am under Life in General Edit This

For the past three months I have been moving.  Yes, it has taken me this long.  After living in one place for nearly 25 years I could not believe all the stuff we accumulated.  Nor could I believe all the nooks and crannies we crammed things into.

While packing, we sorted and tossed.  Now unpacking, we are sorting and tossing again.  But this is not about sorting and tossing.  It is about changing your address once you moved.

We changed our mailing address through the post office.  But that is not the only place you need to change your mailing address.

Our bank required we go to the bank and fill out a form with all the pertinent information: old address, new address, bank accounts, signatures.

Magazines we receive required us to change our address with them.  Do you know right off the top of your head all the magazines you receive throughout the year?  I don’t.  So as the magazines trickle in, I am making the address change with them.

Then there is the Internal Revenue Service, your employer for your pay check, Social Security, and if you have IRA’s or Mutual Funds, you must let them know that your address has changed.

What about all those organizations you belong too?  If you want to continue to receive their newsletters you must let them know that you moved.

Do you get a daily or weekly newspaper?  If so, you must let them know you moved, otherwise you might not get the news.

Yes, the Post Office forwards our mail, but only for a while.  Each Post Office will let you know how long they will forward your mail to you.  But, it is up to you to let those in the “need to know” category, know that you moved and have a change of address.

I think that I have notified most of the magazines, newspapers, organizations, banks, etc., that I have a new address.  For those that I don’t remember, I will notify them as their mail trickles my way.

Now, all I need to do is have the address changed on my drivers licenses.  And before I can do that, I must take with me a bill that has my new address.  I can’t just tell the Department of Motor Vehicles that I moved and here is my new address.  They need proof.
